One of the greatest lies in life has been convincing people to wear clothing they don’t look good in, eat food on diets that aren’t compatible with their body type or lifestyle, and work a job they hate so that they can pay the rent.

All in the name of stability.

It sounds like Betrayal, but it feels all too familiar.

Allow me to take you back to a moment in my life when I seemed to have it all — a growing family, a stable job, and a roof over our heads. I owned the picket fence. Yet, amidst the semblance of success, I felt like a stranger in my own life. It took me years of introspection to realize that the source of my discontent stemmed from living up to someone else’s expectations rather than honoring my own truth.

I thought I was a difficult person, that something was wrong with me, and that no matter what, I would fail. I was convinced the universe was conspiring against me, but in truth, I was missing tools.

But along the journey of discovery, I exchanged quality pieces of myself in hopes of gaining access to love and acceptance, and it didn’t work.

We’ve all fallen prey to society’s pressure to conform and break the promises we make to ourselves — whether it’s squeezing into ill-fitting trends…
